About This Blog

S and I (M) are both in our mid-twenties and were diagnosed with chronic illnesses when we were in our early-twenties. She with Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) and me with Mastocytosis (Masto). We became friends before we knew about this point of commonality, but once we discovered that we both knew what it was like to get the blow—you have something you will struggle with every day for the rest of your life and there is no cure—we definitely became closer.

We found that there is a type of solace that we find in each other that we cannot find in our other friends or partners. No one can truly get the physical, emotional and psychological effects of living with a chronic illness the way someone else with a chronic illness can.

On more than one occasion, S or I have called each other in a moment of freak out or panic needing some one to get why seeing old-people sneakers or a particular episode of House[LINK] sent us into a full-on panic attack. And for the other person to help talk us down to earth.

It was soon after one of those episodes that we thought of starting this blog. We both knew we needed a place to share, to vent, to process. And we wanted to create a go to place for other people who are dealing with a chronic illness too.

We sincerely hope that this blog becomes a place of solace. That people come here in their dark moments and well as in their best to share and garner strength.

Our plan is to cover a whole range of topics from our good days to our bad days, book reviews (either about our respective illnesses, chronic illnesses in general or just what we happen to be reading right then), medicine and particularly our journeys with alternative medicine, how our illnesses effect our relationships (both friends/family and romantically), and anything else that come to mind.

If there is anything you would like us to cover, please let us know! If you also have a blog about coping with a chronic illness, send us the link so we can add it to our blog roll! And please, share your stories. This blog is as much about you as it is about us.

As you’ve probably guessed, M and S are not our real names. For various reason we’ve chosen to remain anonymous. We explain it all here.
